MTL vs DTL vs RDL Vaping

Sky Vapes

People search MTL vs DTL because the same bottle can taste harsh in one kit and fine in another. The difference is where the vapour goes, and how much of it the coil makes.

MTL means mouth to lung. You draw into your mouth, then inhale, the way most people smoked. DTL means direct to lung: a long pull straight in, with a bigger cloud. RDL, restricted direct lung, sits between them. The airflow is looser than MTL and tighter than a wide-open sub-ohm tank.

What to buy for each draw

If you are unsure, start MTL. It uses less liquid, the device is smaller, and 10mg or 20mg nic salts are made for that draw. Move to RDL only after the tighter draw feels too restricted.

  • MTL: a pod kit such as the XROS Mini 3 or OXVA Xlim Go Lite, a coil at 0.8 ohm or above, and a 10ml nic salt from nic salts.
  • RDL: the same pod kits with a lower-ohm pod, around 0.6 ohm, and a thinner nicotine strength. Do not put 20mg salt on a loose, high-power draw.
  • DTL: a kit from sub-ohm kits and a shortfill from e-liquids. High-VG liquid is too thick for a tight MTL pod.

18+ only. You must be 18 or over to buy vaping products in the UK. Nicotine is highly addictive. This is a shopping guide for adults who already vape.
